    harold “pardy” smith 

    a 1925 graduate of newton high school, harold earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball.  he was named captain of the football team in 1924 & 1925, the basketball team in 1923-24 and for baseball in 1923.   in 1925 he was named as quarterback of the newTOn jersey all-state football team.  he helped n.h.s. to receive a rank of 10th among the class “b” football teams in new jersey. 

    he played semi-pro football with the newton moose team and baseball with the newton a.a. team in the sussex county twilight league.  he was engaged in the operation of the newton little league and babe ruth league. 

    harold was a huge supporter of the newton blue jays baseball team and helped organize the father-son games to raise money to purchase equipment.  he also promoted numerous field trips to yankee stadium for the local youth teams and organizations.  he served as a fireman with newton steamer co. and kittatinny hose & ladder co.  he served TENURE as town clerk of newton and was honored for his community service to the town of newton.

    GARY CHIUSANO 

    GRADUATED FROM FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL IN JUNE 1969.  WHILE THERE HE EARNED 10 VARSITY LETTERS.  3 IN FOOTBALL, 4 IN WRESTLING AND 3 IN BASEBALL.  IN BASEBALL 1968 WAS NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL COUNTY, 1ST TEAM ALL SKYLINE CONFERENCE AND 1ST TEAM GROUP II ALL STATE.  HAD A CONFERENCE BATTING AVERAGE OF .435 AND OVERALL BATTING AVERAGE OF .424 AND WAS NAMED M.V.P. OF THE FRANKLIN H.S. BASEBALL TEAM. 

    IN 1969 GARY WAS NAMED CAPTAIN.  IN WRESTLING 1966 PLACED 3RD IN DISTRICTS AT 123 LBS.  IN 1967 PLACED 2ND IN KINNELON TOURNAMENT AT 167 LBS.  IN 1968 PLACED 1ST IN KINNELON TOURNAMENT AT 167 LBS., WAS NAMED CAPTAIN AND M.V.P. OF THE FRANKLIN H.S. TEAM, WITH A 19-2 RECORD.  IN FOOTBALL HE WAS NAMED CO-CAPTAIN IN 1968, ALSO IN 1968 WAS NAMED TO THE ALL-COUNTY TEAM AND GROUP I ALL STATE.  IN 1968 N.J. HERALD SPORTSMAN OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER AND IN 1969 WAS FRANKLIN H.S. ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. 

    GRADUATED WITH HONORS FROM DREXEL UNIVERSITY IN JUNE 1973.  HE RECEIVED 3 VARSITY LETTERS IN FOOTBALL 1970-72.  IN 1972 WAS NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER AND IN 1971 NAMED ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK.  HE WAS THE TRIPLE CROWN WINNER FOR THE SUSSEX COUNTY AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL LG. IN 1970.  PLAYED BASEBALL FOR SPARTA A.A. IN 1971 AND THE BOONTON BEARS IN 1973.

    MARK SCHULTE 

    GRADUATED FROM PARSIPPANY HIGH SCHOOL IN JUNE 1965.  MARK PLAYED FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, TRACK AND BASEBALL. 

    HE PLAYED AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL FOR 3 YEARS FOR THE PARSIPPANY TOMAHAWKS OF THE MORRIS COUNTY MAJOR LEAGUE FOR 3 YEARS  WHILE SERVING IN THE U.S. AIR FORCE FROM 1968-1972 HE PLAYED 8 MAN FOOTBALL 3 YEARS AND WAS NAMED A.T.C. ALL-STAR FOR 2 YEARS.  ALSO PLAYED 2 YEARS OF FAST PITCH SOFTBALL, 4 YEARS OF JUDO – EQU 1ST DEGREE BROWN BELT AND HANDBALL/RACQUETBALL, 2 YEARS AS BASE CHAMPION. 

    MARK SERVED AS AN OFFICIAL FOR THE ALABAMA STATE BASKETBALL, BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL ASSN. AND THE AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOC. FROM 1969-72.  FROM 1972-75 HE OFFICIATED IN MASSACHUSETTS FOR THE STATE BASEBALL, I.A.A.B.O. BOARD 31 BASKETBALL AND MASS. MIDGET FOOTBALL ASSOC. 

    FROM 1975 TO THE PRESENT OFFICIATING FOR THE NEW JERSEY I.A.A.B.O. BOARD 168, N.J.S.B.U.A.  BASEBALL SERVING AS AN EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER AND SUSSEX COUNTY INTERPRETER AND THE S.C.O.A. SOCCER ASSOC.  MARK HAS OFFICIATED NUMEROUS TOURNAMENTS. 

    IN BASEBALL 88 STATE TOURNAMENT GAMES, 7 STATE SECTIONAL FINALS, 3 STATE SEMI-FINALS, 1 STATE FINAL, 4 MORRIS COUNTY SEMI-FINALS AND 1 MORRIS COUNTY FINAL.  IN BASKETBALL 105 STATE TOURNAMENT GAMES 9 SECTIONAL FINALS, 2 STATE SEMI-FINALS, 1 STATE FINAL, 12 SUSSEX COUNTY SEMI-FINALS AND 7 SUSSEX COUNTY FINALS.  IN SOCCER 16 STATE TOURNAMENT GAMES AND 2 STATE SECTIONAL FINALS.  IN A.S.A. SOFTBALL 5 STATE FINALS (FAST, MODIFIED & SLOW PITCH), 3 REGIONAL FINALS (FAST & MODIFIED), 2 NATIONAL TOURNAMENT FINALS (SLOW  MODIFIED PITCH). 

    MARK WAS AN EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER OF THE GOVERNOR’S COUNCIL OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS AND WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE SUSSEX COUNTY COMMITTEE.  HE COACHED VARSITY SOCCER AT KITTATINNY REG. H.S. FOR 8 YEARS AND WAS ASSISTANT COACH 4 YEARS.

    FRED SWANSON 

    GRADUATED FROM HIGH POINT REG. HIGH SCHOOL IN JUNE 1971.  FRED LETTERED IN FOOTBALL FOR 3 YEARS AND IN 1971 WAS NAMED CO-CAPTAIN.  WAS ALSO NAMED CO-CAPTAIN OF THE 1971 ALL COUNTY TEAM.  A 4 YEAR VARSITY LETTER WINNER IN WRESTLING WAS NAMED CAPTAIN IN 1971.  PLACED 2ND IN DISTRICTS AT 157 LBS. IN 1969. 

    IN 1970 HE WAS UNDEFEATED IN DUAL MEETS PLACED 1ST IN DISTRICTS AT 168 LBS. AND MADE THE ALL-COUNTY TEAM.  ALSO IN 1970 PLACED 2ND IN NEW JERSEY AAU TOURNAMENT.  WAS UNDEFEATED IN DUAL MEETS IN 1971, PLACED 1ST IN DISTRICTS AND WAS STATE CHAMPION AT 178 LBS.  NAMED TO ALL-COUNTY TEAM IN 1971.  ENDED HIS HIGH SCHOOL CAREER WITH A 56-6-2 RECORD.  IN 1970 WAS NEW JERSEY HERALD ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AND ALL-STATE WRESTLER BY THE NEWARK NEWS.  WAS ELECTED CLASS PRESIDENT IN 1971. 

    GRADUATED FROM EAST STROUDSBURG STATE COLLEGE IN 1975 WHERE HE WRESTLED AT THE VARSITY LEVEL 4 YEARS.  PLACED 3RD AT U.S.M.A. PLEBE TOURNEY IN 1972.  PLACED 3RD IN HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION PA. STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 1975 AND WAS NAMED NCAA DIV. II ALL-AMERICAN.
