    DENNIS TOBIN 

    EARNED 4 VARSITY LETTERS AT HOPATCONG HIGH SCHOOL.  ACHIEVED 2091 CAREER POINTS AND BECAME THE 23RD PLAYER IN NEW JERSEY HISTORY TO REACH THE 2000 POINT MILESTONE.  MADE THE ALL SUSSEX COUNTY TEAM IN 1976, ’77 AND ’78.  WAS THE NJ HERALD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR IN 1978.  STAR LEDGER ALL STATE GROUP 2 BASKETBALL TEAM IN 1977 AND ’78.  HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN 1976-’77, AND ‘78

    EARNED A BA DEGREE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH IN 1982 FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA - WILMINGTON.  IN COLLEGE HE WAS A 4 YEAR VARSITY BASKETBALL LETTERMAN.  ELECTED CAPTAIN IN 1981 AND ’82.  AN ACADEMIC ALL AMERICAN NOMINEE IN 1982.

    AS SPARTA HEAD BASKETBALL COACH FROM 1984-1990, HIS RECORD READS 126 WINS – 32 LOSSES.  HIS TEAMS WERE SCIL CHAMPIONS 1984-85, 86-87-87-88.

    NORTH JERSEY STATE CHAMPIONS GROUP 3 IN 1988-89, GROUP 3 NORTH-1 SECTIONAL STATE CHAMPIONS 1987-88, 88‑89. 

    N.J. HERALD COACH OF THE YEAR 1987-88.

    STAR LEDGER COACH OF THE YEAR 1988-89.

    RECEIVED A CERTIFICATE IN MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEERING IN JUNE 1963.

    POLICE COMMISSIONER IN FRANKLIN, NJ 1968 AND ’69.

    NRA CERTIFIED POLICE AND CIVILIAN PISTOL COACH 1958-65.

    PRESIDENT FRANKLIN REVOLVER AND RIFLE ASSOCIATION 7 YEARS.

     he attended the franklin public school system.

    at an early age his father passed away and he could not continue his education.  he had to seek employment in order to support his mother and younger brother. 

    he was a caddy at the wallkill country club.  he learned the basic skills of the golf game in this capacity.  he is listed for eight golf crowns in the 1985 wallkill country club yearbook.  these championships started in 1927 and ended in 1935.  he won championships in:  1927, 1928, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935. 

    in 1935 he tied the par record score of 68 in a foursome of the sussex country club course in newton.  he won the tri-club golf championship in 1934 and 1935.  during this period his competitive golf was limited to the tri-club which was made up of franklin, newton and hackettstown.
