    BRENDA GREGORY - CHRISTINE CONSTANTIN IRELAND

    MANUAL (MANNY) REIS - CARLTON SPRAGUE - CATHY WILLE

        BRENDA GREGORY 

    Graduated from Newton High School in 1949 where she excelled for 4 years in intramural sports.  In 1953 she graduated from DOUGLAS College.  In 1952 she received GOLD NJC and was President of the Athletic Association in 1953.  She was a member of the Synchronized Swimming Group for 4 years.  Brenda was HealTH and Physical Education Instructor at Newton H.S. 1953-56, Pope John H.S. 1960-63 and at Kittatinny Reg. H.S. 1979-94.  She coached Lafayette Softball 1969-71, Little League Farm Team 1968-70.  She was Assistant Swim Coach at Kittatinny H.S. from 1979-84.  From 1950-81 was Waterfront Instructor and/or Director at various camps.  Brenda was also a NJIAA Referee for Basketball 1975-78, Field Hockey 1975-93, Field Hockey Referee Trainer 1980-88, Water Safety Instructor Trainer 1970-94, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer 1987-94 and Water Safety Instructor from 1950 till the present time.

    CHRISTINE CONSTANTIN IRELAND 

    A 1989 GRADUATE OF KITTATINNY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL WHERE SHE EARNED 4 VARSITY LETTERS EACH IN CROSS COUNTY AND TRACK & FIELD AND COMPETED IN THE NJ HIGH SCHOOL MEET OF CHAMPIONS FOR CROSS COUNTRY IN 1988 AND IN THE NJ HIGH SCHOOL MEET OF CHAMPIONS FOR TRACK & FIELD IN 1989.  SHE WON THE EASTERN STATES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1988.  WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE REPRESENTED K.R.H.S. IN THE UNITED WAY SCHOLAR-ATHLETE CEREMONY IN 1989.  IN 1997 SHE WAS NAMED TO THE NORTH JERSEY TOP 25 FOR CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS.  ON NOV. 7TH, 1988 SHE WAS PRESENTED WITH THE SPORTS ILLUSTRATED FACE IN THE CROWD AWARD. 

    CHRISTINE GRADUATED FROM GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY IN 1993 AND EARNED 4 VARSITY LETTERS IN BOTH CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK & FIELD.  SHE WAS AN 8 TIME ALL-AMERICAN IN CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK & FIELD FROM 1989-1993. 

    IN 1992 SHE WAS BIG EAST CONFERENCE CHAMPION AT 10,000 METERS AND PLACED 3RD IN THE 10,000 METERS AT THE NATIONAL OUTDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1990 AND 1993.  IN 1993 SHE WAS VOTED M.V.P. IN CROSS COUNTRY. 

    SHE WAS THE CHAMPION IN THE 10,000 METERS AT THE PENN RELAYS IN 1991 AND WAS CHAMPION IN THE 3,000 AND 5,000 METERS AT THE ECAC OUTDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1993.  SHE STILL HOLDS SEVERAL TRACK RECORDS AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY.

    MANUAL (MANNY) REIS

    MANNY ATTENDED SEMINARY OF SAINT JOANNE, AVERIO, PORTUGAL AND FROM 1939-44 PLAYED SOCCER.  HE GRADUATED FROM CENTRAL EVENING H.S. OF NEWARK IN 1949.   HE PLAYED SOCCER WITH SPORT CLUB PORTUGUESE FROM 1947-48 & MARITIMO MURTOENSE FROM 1948-54. 

    MANNY GRADUATED FROM SETON HALL UNIVERSITY IN 1956 AND EARNED HIS MASTERS AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY.  HE STARTED AND COACHED THE YOUTH SOCCER PROGRAM AT OUR LADY OF FATIMA IN NEWARK.  HE FOUNDED A PORTUGUESE SOCCER LEAGUE IN THE NEWARK LISA-LUSO INTERNATIONAL SOCCER ASSOCIATION AND SERVED AS PRESIDENT FOR 2 YEARS.  N 1960 HE STARTED A MENíS SOCCER PROGRAM AT SPARTA H.S. SERVED AS HEAD COACH FROM THE 1960-80 AMASSING A CAREER RECORD OF 194-72-20. 

    IN 1977 HIS TEAM WON THE GROUP II NORTH I STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND IN 1981 WON THE GROUP III NORTH STATE SECTION I TITLE.  IN 1997 MANNY WAS ELECTED TO THE NEW JERSEY SOCCER COACHES ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.

    CARLTON SPRAGUE 

    GRADUATED FROM NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL IN 1935, EARNING VARSITY LETTERS IN WRESTLING AND BASEBALL.  HE WAS STATE INTERSCHOLASTIC WRESTLING CHAMPION IN 1934 AND IN 1935.  HE ALSO PLACED 2ND IN THE EASTERN INTERSCHOLASTIC WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1935.  HE WAS A 3 TIME RUNNER-UP AT THE STATE A.A.U. TOURNAMENT, FROM THE NEWTON BOYS CLUB TEAM, FROM 1934-1938.  CARLTON GRADUATED FROM THE U.S. ARMY COAST ARTILLERY SCHOOL AS A 2ND LT. IN 1942 AND TAUGHT HAND TO HAND COMBAT FROM 1943-1945.  HE LEFT THE ARMY IN 1946 WITH THE RANK OF CAPTAIN.  HE BECAME INVOLVED IN THE FLYING TERN SAILING COMPETITION AT SWARTSWOOD YACHT CLUB IN 1963 SERVING AS DIRECTOR, FLEET CAPTAIN AND ON THE MEMBERSHIP & REGATTA COMMITTEES.  IN 1966 HE PLACED 4TH AT THE FLYING TERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT AUGUSTA, MAINE.  IN 1967 HE PLACED 1ST IN THE FLYING TERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MANCHESTER, MASS.  (OCEAN RACING). 

    IN 1967 PLACED 2ND AT CARNEGIE INVITATION REGATTA AT PRINCETON, NJ AND PLACED 2ND AT FLYING TERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT OYSTER BAY, L.I.  HE SERVED AS CHIEF MEASURER FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN TERN ASSOCIATION FROM 1964-1970.

    CATHY WILLE

    ATTENDED AND GRADUATED FROM SPARTA HIGH SCHOOL IN 1986 WHERE SHE EARNED 4 VARSITY LETTERS EACH IN BASKETBALL AND TRACK & FIELD.  AS A POINT GUARD SHE LED HER BASKETBALL TEAM TO UNDEFEATED SEASONS IN 1984-85.  SHE WAS NAMED TO THE S.C.I.L. ALL-LEAGUE TEAM IN BASKETBALL IN 1985-86.  SHE SET LEAGUE RECORDS FOR MOST GAMES PLAYED 107, MOST ASSISTS 523, AND MOST STEALS 514. 

    IN 1985 & 1986 WAS NAMED S.H.S. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER IN GIRLS BASKETBALL.  SHE WAS NAMED M.V.P. OF THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME PLAYED AT THE NJ MEADOWLANDS ARENA.  CATHY WAS A 2 TIME NEW JERSEY HERALD ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AND IN 1986 WAS NAMED NEW JERSEY HERALD FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.  IN MARCH 1986 SHE WAS NAMED STAR LEDGER ATHLETE OF THE WEEK.  SHE LED HER TEAM TO A #2 RANKING IN THE STATE IN 1985 AND TO #3 IN 1986. 

    IN 1986 SHE WAS NAMED S.H.S. FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.  IN TRACK & FIELD SHE COMPETED IN LONG JUMP, HIGH JUMP, SPRINTS AND THE RELAY TEAM, WHICH WON THE NORTH SECTION GROUP II TITLE IN 1985.  SHE GRADUATED FROM WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY IN 1990 EARNING VARSITY LETTERS IN BASKETBALL FOR THREE YEARS.  SHE HELD THE W.F.U. SEASON RECORD FOR ASSISTS, 143 DURING THE 1987-88 SEASON.  SHE HELPED LEAD HER TEAM TO REACH THE NCAA TOURNAMENT IN 1987-88 AND IN THE 1989-90 SEASON HELPED LEAD HER TEAM TO A 23-8 RECORD.
