    Sam “Si” Ingler - Honorary Member 

    Distinguished Sports Writer from Sussex County from 1937 - 1970.  Best known for his many fine articles with the Sussex County Independent and the New Jersey Herald. 

    Started the Herald’s first sports page in 1946.  That year he was named its first sports Editor and held this position till 1952.  Covered over 15,000 sporting events during his writing career. 

    Through his fine efforts, over 300 county athletes attained SCHOLARSHIPS; over 200 athletes received all State Mention in city newspapers via of Si’s materials furnished.  His articles will long be remembered by the athletes of Sussex County.

    VICTOR PATERNOSTRO 

    ATTENDED PAROCHIAL AND PREP SCHOOLS IN NEW JERSEY WINNING LETTERS IN FOOTBALL, WRESTLING AND BASEBALL. 

    GRADUATE OF NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY PLAYING FOOTBALL 4 YEARS.  HOLDS A MASTERS DEGREE FROM FORDHAM UNIVERSITY. 

    OUTSTANDING FOOTBALL COACH AT POPE JOHN REG. H.S. 15 YEARS.  4 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, COACH OF THE YEAR 4 TIMES.  MAN OF THE YEAR – NEWTON VFW – 1976.  PRESENT TIME VICE PRINCIPAL AND HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AT SCHOOL….ATTAINED HIS 100 WIN IN 1981.

    Pat Schwab 

    Outstanding H.S. and State Golfer from Ohio 1950-1951.  Graduate from UNI. Of Florida in 1955 where he won many Florida Intercollegiate Championships 1952 – 1955. 

    Winner of the Newton Country Club Pro-Member tournament 1970 and 1972.  Perona Farms Open Tournament winner 1977. 

    New Jersey State PGA Champion 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1981.  New Jersey PGA player of the year in 1967 and 1968.  State of New Jersey Professional athlete of the year – 1968.  Presently GOLF DIRECTOR OF Playboy resort and country club, McAfee, NJ where he has set the course record.

    JAMES SHELTON 

    DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF AT FRANKLIN H.S. IN FOOTBALL 1948-1952 ALL STATE GROUP 1 – 1951. 

    EARNED 3 VARSITY LETTERS AT UNIV. OF DELAWARE 1952-1957.  UPI ALL EAST WEEKLY SQUAD 3 TIMES.  CITY SERVICE ALL AMERICAN CHECK LIST 1955.  ALL EAST “COLLIER” MAGAZINE 1956.  MEMBER OF THE FRANKLIN MINERS, 2ND INF. DIV. FT. BENNING, GA. AND 1ST CAV. DIV. KOREA.  PRESENTLY A BRIGADIER GENERAL, U.S. ARMY, FT. LEWIS, WASHINGTON.

    DANIEL STEVENS - Honorary Member 

    A true son of Franklin and Sussex County.  Attended Franklin Schools, 1924-1928.  Track and field varsity participant.  Elizabeth Hospital, Princeton, Ill 1930-1935. 

    Has served as trainer for Paterson State Teachers, Paterson – Newark Bears, Jersey City Jays, BROOKLYN Dodgers and Franklin HS from 1931-1981. 

    President Franklin Miners, 1964.  Franklin Hospital Award for 40 years service.  Honored “Dan Stevens Day” Oct. 29, 1976, “From grid iron to hospital to mayor’s office.”  30 years fireman, mayor 1954.  Still active trainer and member of franklin boro recreation commission.

    William L. Szanyi 

    Attended Franklin H.S. 1944-1947 earning 6 varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball.  All State 1946 and 1947 in Football, Baseball and Basketball. 

    George Washington Uni. 1947-1951. ALL Conference Football 1951.  Air Force football Bolling AFB 1951.  Played in Sussex County Baseball and Basketball League.  MVP Basketball 1949.  24 years U.S. Air Force Lt. Col.
